@ Work Telecommuter
So how much of your job could you do with out a computer? For me, I might as well not be here. Hey I’m not knocking technology, I love it, but anyboy who does not do manual labor would pretty much be screwed with out a computer, myself included. Can typing be considered manual labor?
I am a telecomuter but I have to go into work, let me explain. Right now I am on loan to help out with a transition, I have been moved to a different floor and don’t see anyone I work with on a daily basis. All of my work comes by email. Oh and occasionally a phone call. One of the people I report to works on a different floor in the same location, I think. The other person that I report to is in a different state. I am so computer dependent that my desk has no paper on it. I do have some paper files but nothing that would help me do my job. I spend alot of time in Excel spreadsheets and you cant do that on paper. I see this as being eco friendly, save the trees and all, I dont print anything unless I absolutly have to.
So if the power went out, hopefully for the whole day, I can’t do a lick of work. This actually happend once, yes one time in the 8 years I have been here. I showed up to work and my co workers were milling around outside. Whats the deal, the power is out and everyone is being sent home. Hey a free day off, and I get paid for it, see ya later. Though it would have been nice to know before I spent an hour and a half commute to work. So if for some reason the world lost all power I would be out of a job. I know for a fact that without computers a whole lot of people would be screwed. How bout you?
